Linguistic Business Coaching (LBC) is an approach to coaching and training aiming to enhance non-native language speakers’ linguistic self-confidence and spontaneity of expression in a foreign language in the context of international business communication.[1] It draws from psycholinguistics, applied drama, NLP and storytelling.
LBC posits that everyone is able to reach the native or near native level of confidence and effectiveness in another language as long as the speaker’s L2 beliefs, vision and motivation are aligned.
LBC starts with the Who, Why, What, the so called 3 W’s of LBC, and, inspired by Zoltán Dörnyei's L2 Motivational Self System[2], uses its elements to establish the speakers’ current L2 Self and desired L2 Self, as well as their main motivators.[3] The key difference is that LBC does not deal with language learners but language speakers, who have already concluded their formal language training and want to be more effective in their international communication in the professional context. LBC bridges the gap between being an L2 learner and a confident L2 communicator by tapping into L2 speakers’ dreams, desires and aspirations.
