Her dad continued. "Mom and I can both see how happy you are, and we thank Trent for that. However, please don't forget to take your pills every day. We don't want any unexpected grandchildren until the two of you are ready to take care of them."
Trent almost choked on his sandwich. Abby blushed but quickly answered, "Don't worry, Dad. We won't be having any babies anytime soon. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about having Mom take me to the gynecologist to have an contraceptive implant. That will protect me for three years."
"If that is what you want, Abby, then I will make an appointment for you," her mother replied. "I think they can also implant a five-year contraceptive. That would protect you through college."
"OK," Abby responded. "I will talk with her about it when I see the gynecologist."
Scholarship offers would soon be coming in for both Trent and Abby, a university would be selected that would suit both of their needs, degrees would be earned and a career and a family would be started, but that was all in the future. For now, it was enough that they were in love and that both sets of parents had accepted their well-considered choices. Sometimes, storybook romances with happy endings really do happen.
