That original cemetery is there, under the now huge oak tree, but now it has a wrought iron fence around it. There are headstones for Daniel, Charlotte, and all of the Jacobs family that weathered the storms of Oklahoma, two world wars, and several other conflicts that weren't called wars. All of the boys and many of the girls served when called. Two didn't come back home from fighting in a far-off land.

In spite of all that, the Jacobs family survived and kept going, but then, the people who can do that are the type of people who originally settled Oklahoma. They were hard enough to take on any task, soft enough to help each other and their neighbors, and they raised their children to be the same way. They should be proud of that legacy, the legacy of people who wouldn't bend to Nature or anything else life could throw at them, and they should pass that legacy on to subsequent generations. Those subsequent generations will all have their own times between a rock and a hard place. They need to remember that like Charlotte had told Daniel, "We've had some of those before and they worked out all right", there's always a way out with enough thought and work.

Another masterpiece from a master storyteller. This story was awesome. It's long past my bedtime, but I just couldn't go to sleep before finishing it. Ronde, I just love your cop stories and westerns. Every one of your stories are different and original. That's what makes them so interesting. I have been reading Literotica for the past 2 years, and I think you are the most interesting writer that I have come across. Please keep up the good work.

A well-told story worth at least five stars. I learned a little history and was reminded of some of the hardships our ancestors went through as they settled Oklahoma. A truly enjoyable tale. Thanks for posting.

Great story, characters, morals.

What a nice tale. It always amazes me the way the church and its bs controls people.

I really liked the sound reasoning that kept the 2 MCs together.

I'm always impressed with the amount of research Ronde does to write these stories. It's not just the history, but the details of life in the worlds chosen to write about. You always know that the two MCs are going to end up together, but the smooth way this is done as well as the romance needed for the times and the people are really worth the time to read. 5*

Good story. Must be nice for some trolls who never seem to be brave enough to give their name while they sit back and spew their venom while their statements show that they didn't even read the story. Quantrill isn't mentioned, or would he be as he was killed in 1865. There were a lot of different factions of the Bald Knobbers and as the story mentioned, just about every county in SW Missouri had its own group with different goals in mind. Hope you prick your finger with your poison pen Mr. Anonymous.
