That original cemetery is there, under the now huge oak tree, but now it has a wrought iron fence around it. There are headstones for Daniel, Charlotte, and all of the Jacobs family that weathered the storms of Oklahoma, two world wars, and several other conflicts that weren't called wars. All of the boys and many of the girls served when called. Two didn't come back home from fighting in a far-off land.

In spite of all that, the Jacobs family survived and kept going, but then, the people who can do that are the type of people who originally settled Oklahoma. They were hard enough to take on any task, soft enough to help each other and their neighbors, and they raised their children to be the same way. They should be proud of that legacy, the legacy of people who wouldn't bend to Nature or anything else life could throw at them, and they should pass that legacy on to subsequent generations. Those subsequent generations will all have their own times between a rock and a hard place. They need to remember that like Charlotte had told Daniel, "We've had some of those before and they worked out all right", there's always a way out with enough thought and work.

Another masterpiece from a master storyteller. This story was awesome. It's long past my bedtime, but I just couldn't go to sleep before finishing it. Ronde, I just love your cop stories and westerns. Every one of your stories are different and original. That's what makes them so interesting. I have been reading Literotica for the past 2 years, and I think you are the most interesting writer that I have come across. Please keep up the good work.

A well-told story worth at least five stars. I learned a little history and was reminded of some of the hardships our ancestors went through as they settled Oklahoma. A truly enjoyable tale. Thanks for posting.

Great story, characters, morals.

What a nice tale. It always amazes me the way the church and its bs controls people.

I really liked the sound reasoning that kept the 2 MCs together.

I'm always impressed with the amount of research Ronde does to write these stories. It's not just the history, but the details of life in the worlds chosen to write about. You always know that the two MCs are going to end up together, but the smooth way this is done as well as the romance needed for the times and the people are really worth the time to read. 5*

Good story. Must be nice for some trolls who never seem to be brave enough to give their name while they sit back and spew their venom while their statements show that they didn't even read the story. Quantrill isn't mentioned, or would he be as he was killed in 1865. There were a lot of different factions of the Bald Knobbers and as the story mentioned, just about every county in SW Missouri had its own group with different goals in mind. Hope you prick your finger with your poison pen Mr. Anonymous.

I really enjoyed this .. it gives a true insight into some parts of America's history. Realising that it is not so long ago is also an eye opener. My

Sorry. Anything that sings the praises of Quantrell and his gang of rapists and thieves isn't even worth a single star. Haven't a clue how the storywent since I quit reading when the author donned his pointy hood and showed his true stripes.

Another excellent reach into the past to prod us to contemplate and perhaps appreciate where and whom we came from. My sincere thanks to the writer.

Water was heated in a copper boiler on a kerosene stove

Half of it was mixed with cold in a galvanixed tub.

Mother then father then Anne bathed.

That water was thown out, the tub refilled as before

Harley, George and finally I got our baths

As always 5 stars

Enjoyed the story. Definitely five-stars. But I have to say that the statement that they did not feel the impact of the dust bowl is erroneous. Everybody felt the impact of that time especially in Oklahoma. My family has been in Oklahoma since before the land rush my mother raised four kids there by her self at a time when a divorced woman was supposed to find any man that would be willing take her kids to raise and be happy. The only time I seen my mother cry was when we were driving past a farm that had been neighbors when she was a child and seen the grandson in a dozer pushing out the tree brake that had been planted by the ccc boys and that she had carried buckets of water to so they would live just for few more bushels of wheat. Some people just don't learn

5 stars ain't enough. Yes i'm an Okie proud of it and my family has been here since before statehood. They came by a wagon also just about 120 miles straight south of Guthrie (still the true capitol of Oklahoma). They worked hard and passed down generations of a hard working families. All of have served our country in one way or another and yes we lost some along the way to those wars and so called conflicts. We still stand proud of who they were and what they taught us and will for many years to come. Thanks for a heartfelt story of where many still live and work the land 1889- present.

WONDERFUL, 10 stars aren't enough. Daniel didn't know it, but he had a wife long before they built their homestead. She was hos MRS., when she cooked and washed his clothes, and really his MRS., when she showed him where the kids came from. She showed her HUSBAND what a WIFE really was...

The Bald knobbers and others were real groups. The free state Jayhawkers were nearly as vicious as Quantril . And it’s BS about the civil war starting at Ft Sumpter. Kansas and Missouri had been in armed open conflict for over a year. The easterners were late to the party..

I live on the Chisholm trail as in Jesse probably peed in my living room. We are a little north of where the land rush started but not by much.

Your write the best feel good stories and they are so full of historical facts. I often wonder how you dig up some of those finer details. Also the character development was especially detailed and the characters were so likable with strong moral values. 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another of your wonderful stories. I moved to Ozark, MO in Christian County 6 years ago so I'm somewhat familiar with the area where your story begins. I've also been across I44 through Joplin and across part of Oklahoma on my way to Dallas many time.
